Why See the Dentist Twice a Year?

Why See the Dentist Twice a Year?

Calgary Dental Professionals
In an ideal world, we would each brush, floss, and use mouth wash consistently twice a day. Yet unfortunately, reality is a dentists’ worst nightmare which generally means brushing twice a day, mouth wash occasionally, and flossing….who has time for that? With our generations busy schedule that also feels like it just keeps getting busier and busier by the second, it is no doubt that some of our oral health regimes fall to the sideline.

The hard truth of this matter is that over time this behaviour will allow for plaque to build up. Plaque is the unwanted sticky bacterial film that can solidify and worsen by turning into calculus or tartar. Once your oral condition has reached this point it is very difficult to resolve at home or on your own, as the cement-like substance needs to be removed with the tools by your dental hygienist. Six-month intervals between visits serves to keep your mouth healthy and clean, yet additionally allows potential problematic areas to be diagnosed and prevented as early as possible.

Each patient and their oral health care can be found on different levels of the spectrum. In some cases, a six-month schedule is not enough. Based on your dental history as well as your general health regime, some patients find they needs a closer interval with just 3 or 4 months between each visit. Your dentist and the dental team will work with you to help determine what schedule is best for you.

If you have questions or concerns about the frequency of your dental visit, please feel free to consult with our team at Signal Hill Dental Centre as we would be happy to help you reach your optimal oral health.
