‘Tis the Season to Brush, Floss and Rinse

Over the Holiday season is comes as no surprised to indulge a little. After all, you’ve put in a good effort this year and you deserve to give yourself a little pat on the back for all your hard work. However being surrounded by all the traditional and often unhealthy foods and drink, it is necessary to remember your basic dental routines to maintain good oral health.

Although it may be hard to resist when surrounded by an array of festive treats and delights, it is important to highlight that they often have one thing in common – high sugar content. High sugar intake can increase health risks, and is a leading factor to tooth decay.

A recent study shared some interesting statistics:

  • 50% of the population admits to eating one and a half times their regular portion size during the holiday season
  • 25% of the population admits to eating two times their regular portion size during the holiday season
  • 60% of those in the study admitted that one of their main reasons of overeating was as a result of indulging in sugary sweets and treats

Having showcased these alarming stats, it is extremely important to be aware of your eating habits during the holiday season and ensure that you maintain your routine health care steps.

A few reminders:

  • Drink more water, especially after eating sweets
  • Brush at least twice a day, for 2 minutes a day
  • Floss daily
  • Use mouth-rinse or chew sugar free gum after a meal
